AI Video Credits Explained: What One Clip Really Costs on 5 Platforms

Every AI video platform sells you the same thing under a different name. Pollo AI sells credits. Higgsfield sells credits. PixVerse sells credits. Kling AI sells credits. We sell credits. And not one of those credits is worth the same as another.

That's the whole problem with AI video credits explained in one sentence: a credit is a private currency, and every platform prints its own. One credit on PixVerse buys a fraction of a second. One credit on Higgsfield buys a seventh of a clip. One credit on Pollo buys roughly a thirtieth of a Kling 3 video. Comparing plan prices without converting the currency is like comparing salaries in yen and dollars by the size of the number.

This guide gives you the exchange-rate method, then runs it on five platforms for one identical reference clip. All figures were checked in September 2026; our own numbers come straight from the credit prices shown live in the Studio before every generation, and competitor numbers come from their public pricing pages as listed at the time. Prices move, so treat the method as permanent and the numbers as a snapshot.

Why AI video platforms use credits

It's tempting to read credits as a trick, and sometimes they are. But there are three honest reasons every serious platform ended up here.

Compute cost changes with every setting

A 4-second 480p clip on an entry model and a 10-second 4K clip on a flagship model can differ in real compute cost by fifty times or more. A flat "per video" price would either overcharge the cheap job or lose money on the expensive one. Credits let one price list scale with resolution, duration, model and audio.

Many models, one wallet

Multi-model platforms host a dozen or more video models with wildly different upstream costs. Credits are the only sane way to let you spend the same balance on a quick draft model at breakfast and a cinematic model at lunch.

The downside for you

The same flexibility that makes credits fair also makes them opaque. When the unit is abstract, three things get hidden: what one clip actually costs in dollars, what happens to credits when a generation fails, and when unused credits vanish. The rest of this article drags those three into the light.

The Credit Exchange Rate method

You need exactly three numbers from any pricing page. Everything else on the page is decoration.

Dollars per credit. Plan price divided by monthly credits. This is the exchange rate. On our Starter plan it's $19.90 ÷ 1,500 = $0.0133 per credit.

Credits per clip. Not the cheapest example on the homepage. The cost of the clip you will actually make, at the tier, resolution, duration and audio setting you will actually use.

Dollars per clip. Multiply the two. This is the only number that lets you compare platforms, because it's denominated in real money for a real output.

Then, and only then, check two policies: do failed generations refund, and when do unused credits expire. Those two policies routinely change the effective price by 20 to 40 percent, which is more than the difference between most competing plans.

The reference clip we price everywhere

To compare five platforms you need one clip that exists on all of them, or at least a close equivalent. We chose:

• 5 seconds, the most common social-clip length
• 1080p, the resolution most people actually publish at
• No generated audio, because audio pricing varies so much it deserves its own section
• A Kling 3 class model, because it's available on four of the five platforms and is the most-searched model of 2026

PixVerse doesn't host Kling, so for PixVerse we price its own flagship model at the same spec and say so. Where a platform has more than one Kling 3 mode, we show the standard mode as the reference and note the professional mode.

Imgveo credits explained

We'll start at home, because we can show every number rather than estimate it.

Plans

Yearly billing gives two months free on every paid plan. One-time credit packs run from 500 credits for $10 up to 7,000 credits for $100.

Credits per clip by tier

These are the same figures the Studio shows before you click Generate. Dollar values use the Starter rate.

So our reference clip costs 50 credits, about $0.66, on Kling 3 standard, or 65 credits, about $0.86, on Kling 3 professional. On the Business plan those fall to $0.42 and $0.54.

Refund on failure

If a generation fails for a technical reason, the credits come back automatically. You pay for delivered clips, not for attempts. This matters more than it sounds, and we'll quantify it below.

Expiry

Subscription credits expire 30 days after they're granted. Credit-pack credits expire after 90 days. Both windows are printed on the pricing page, not buried in terms.

Pollo AI credits explained

Pollo AI is the platform most people compare us to, because it also aggregates many models under one wallet.

Plans

As listed in September 2026, Pollo's monthly plans were Lite at $15 for 300 credits and Pro at $29 for 800 credits, with an Ultra tier at $129. The free plan gives a small monthly allowance with watermarked output. That puts Lite at about $0.050 per credit and Pro at about $0.036 per credit.

Credits per clip

Pollo prices each model separately, and the premium video models consume credits quickly. Based on its own published guidance that 300 Lite credits cover roughly ten Kling 3 videos, a Kling 3 clip costs on the order of 30 credits.

Dollars per clip

30 credits works out to roughly $1.50 on Lite and $1.09 on Pro for the reference clip. Pollo's per-credit price looks high next to ours because its credits are larger units; the exchange-rate method corrects for that automatically.

Refunds and expiry

Pollo's published policy on failed generations and on credit expiry should be confirmed on its pricing page before you buy; both have changed during 2026, and third-party summaries disagree.

Higgsfield credits explained

Higgsfield is the cinematic-preset specialist, and it also hosts Kling 3 alongside Seedance and Veo.

Plans

September 2026 listings show Starter at $19 for 270 credits, Plus at $59 for 1,200 credits, and Ultra at $129 for 3,000 credits, with annual billing bringing the top two down to $47 and $99 a month. That's $0.070, $0.049 and $0.043 per credit respectively. Credit packs from 80 credits for $5 to 1,700 credits for $80 are available, but only to active subscribers.

Credits per clip

Higgsfield's own plan math describes the Ultra plan as covering roughly 428 Kling 3 videos, which implies about 7 credits per standard Kling 3 clip. That is the cheapest Kling 3 unit price in this comparison, so it's worth checking which resolution and duration that figure assumes before you rely on it.

Dollars per clip

At 7 credits, the reference clip costs about $0.49 on Starter, $0.34 on Plus and $0.30 on Ultra. The catch is the plan floor: the good rate lives on the $59 and $129 plans.

Refunds and expiry

Monthly credits do not roll over; unused credits reset at each billing cycle. Refund handling for failed generations isn't stated on the pricing page and should be confirmed in-app.

PixVerse credits explained

PixVerse runs its own model family rather than hosting Kling, so this row compares its flagship at the same spec.

Plans

September 2026 pricing shows Standard at $8 for 1,200 credits capped at 720p, Pro at $24 for 6,000 credits with 1080p, Premium at $48 for 15,000 credits, and Ultra at $149 for 25,000 credits. That's $0.0067, $0.004, $0.0032 and $0.006 per credit. The free plan grants 90 credits plus 60 daily credits, with watermarks and lower resolution.

Credits per clip

PixVerse bills per second. Its V6 model at 1080p with audio is listed at 23 credits per second, so a 5-second clip is about 115 credits. A silent 1080p clip is somewhat less, but PixVerse's public table leads with the audio figure.

Dollars per clip

115 credits on Pro is about $0.46; on Premium about $0.37. Note that the $8 Standard plan can't produce the reference clip at all, because it caps output at 720p.

Refunds and expiry

Credits don't roll over month to month. Refund policy for failed jobs should be confirmed in-app.

Kling AI credits explained

Kling AI is the model maker's own app, so this is the "same model, different platform" baseline.

Plans

September 2026 listings show a free tier with 66 daily credits, Standard at $10 a month (660 credits, with a promotional $6.99 first month appearing at times), Pro at $37, Premier at $92 and Ultra at $180. Standard works out to about $0.015 per credit.

Credits per clip

Kling's own 3.0 user guide lists 8 credits per second for 1080p without audio and 12 credits per second with native audio. A 5-second silent 1080p clip is therefore 40 credits; the same clip with audio is 60.

Dollars per clip

40 credits on Standard is about $0.61. That's the cheapest way to make a Kling 3 clip on an entry-priced plan in this comparison, which is exactly what you'd expect from the model's own home.

Refunds and expiry

Free daily credits expire daily. Paid credits reset on the billing cycle. Kling's handling of failed generations is the single most common complaint in user reviews of the app; confirm current policy before committing to a large plan.

Side-by-side: what one clip costs

Three things jump out.

The spread is 5×. The same clip runs from about $0.30 to about $1.50 depending on where you make it. Feature grids never show that.

Per-credit price predicts nothing. PixVerse has the cheapest credit and a mid-table clip price. Higgsfield has the most expensive credit and the cheapest clip. Only the converted number means anything.

We are not the cheapest on this clip, and we're fine saying so. Kling's own app undercuts us by a nickel, and Higgsfield's top plan undercuts us by more. What we do differently is refund failed generations automatically, print every price before you generate, and never watermark output. The next section shows why that first point alone can flip the ranking.

The hidden multipliers

The table above is the sticker price. Five multipliers sit on top of it, and they are where budgets actually get decided.

Audio

Turning on generated sound is a surcharge on most Kling-family tiers. On our platform Kling 3 standard goes from 50 to 70 credits (+40%), Kling 3 professional from 65 to 95 (+46%), and Kling 2.6 doubles from 60 to 120. Kling's own app moves from 8 to 12 credits per second (+50%). Veo 3 includes audio in its price, and our Seedance 2 and Basic tiers don't charge extra for it. If you're adding your own voice-over or music anyway, leave audio off and pocket the difference.

Resolution and 4K

Resolution is the steepest multiplier. Our Basic tier goes from 20 credits at 480p to 50 at 1080p, a 2.5× jump. Kling 3 goes from 65 credits in professional mode to 225 in 4K, about 3.5×. PixVerse's cheapest plan can't reach 1080p at all. The discipline that saves the most money on every platform is the same: draft low, finalize high, and only finalize the keeper.

Duration

On per-second tiers, duration is perfectly linear. A 10-second clip costs exactly twice a 5-second clip. It sounds obvious, but it means "just make it a bit longer" is never a small decision.

Failed generations

This is the multiplier pricing pages skip. If a platform keeps the credits from a failed job, your real cost per delivered clip is the sticker price divided by the success rate. At an 80% success rate, every clip costs 1.25× the listed price; at 70%, 1.43×. Run that on the table above: a $0.61 Kling clip at 75% success is really $0.81, which is dearer than our $0.66 with refunds. The cheaper platform isn't always the cheaper platform.

Expiry

Credits you don't use before they expire raise the price of the ones you did. If you buy 1,500 credits and let 300 expire, you paid 25% more per credit than the plan advertised. Match the plan to your real monthly output, and prefer platforms that print the expiry window rather than hiding it.

How many clips does $20 buy?

Converting the other way is often more useful when you're choosing a plan. Here's the reference clip, silent, at roughly the $20 mark on each platform.

Add the failure multiplier and the picture shifts again. If a platform doesn't refund and you lose one clip in five, 38 attempts become 30 usable clips, exactly what a refunding platform delivers from 30 attempts. This is why we keep saying the number to compare is usable clips, not credits and not even dollars.

How to read any credit table in 60 seconds

Next time you land on a pricing page, do this in order and ignore everything else:

1. Find the plan price and the monthly credits. Divide. Write down dollars per credit.
2. Find your clip, not theirs. Locate the credit cost for the model, duration, resolution and audio setting you'll really use. If the page only shows the cheapest example, that's a signal.
3. Multiply. Now you have dollars per clip. Compare that number across platforms and nothing else.
4. Search the page for "fail" and "expire". If neither word appears, assume the worst until support tells you otherwise.
5. Check the floor. Does the cheap rate only exist on the $129 plan? Does the entry plan cap resolution below what you publish at? A great unit price you can't afford to unlock isn't a great unit price.
